GEORGE TOWN:Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow's decision to stay out of the party elections later this month will not affect his position in the Penang government.
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook said Chow would remain as the Penang Chief Minister.
"It should be emphasised that his decision today does not affect the administration of the Penang government.
"This is because he will continue to hold the position of Chief Minister until the end of this term, in accordance with the State Constitution provisions that limit the Chief Minister's position to a maximum of two terms," he said today.
Earlier today, Chow told newsmen that he decided to stay out of the party elections later this month.
When speaking at a press conference in Komtar here, Chow said he received a letter from DAP Malaysia, dated Aug 27, informing him that he had been nominated to contest in the state elections, scheduled on Sept 22.
He said after due consideration, he decided not to accept the nomination to contest.
