PBRS lauds victory in Dutch Supreme Court over Sabah claim

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) has described Malaysia's victory in the Dutch Supreme Court as a special gift for the people of Sabah to commemorate Malaysia Day and Sabah Day celebrations in 2024.

The court had dismissed the appeal by the Sulu group over the issue of Sabah.

PBRS president Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup said that the good news proved that Sabah is a sovereign state within Malaysia.

"This victory also puts an end to the claims by the Sulu group, which Sabah has never recognised from the very beginning.

"PBRS expresses its congratulations and appreciation for the commitment and efforts of the unity government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who has been very serious in ensuring that all external claims on Sabah are terminated as soon as possible.

"This achievement is a special gift for the people of Sabah to commemorate Sabah Day and Malaysia Day 2024 celebrations.

"PBRS will continue to support all efforts by the government to ensure the safety and interests of the people of Sabah and Malaysia are protected at all times.

"Thank you for always defending Sabah's sovereignty within Malaysia," he said in a media statement.

Last Friday, the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said announced that the government had achieved a significant final victory in the Dutch Supreme Court, which ruled in favour of Malaysia, rejecting the appeal filed by the Sulu group.

The judgment in favour of Malaysia effectively nullifies the claims made by the group.
