KLUANG: A win for Barisan Nasional's Mahkota candidate will represent a victory for the Indian community, says MIC vice-president Datuk M. Asogan.
Asogan, who was also at the nomination centre at the Dewan Ibrahim Ismail, here, yesterday, said the state had achieved a lot under the current BN-led Johor government, particularly in addressing issues affecting the Indian community.
"Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has consistently worked to address the challenges faced by the Indian community," he said, also praising MIC's Tenggaroh assemblyman, K. Raven Kumar, for his key role.
Raven, who chairs the state's Unity, Heritage, and Culture committee, was credited for his contributions.
Asogan expressed confidence that Syed Hussein Syed Abdullah, BN's candidate for Mahkota, would continue to champion the concerns of the Indian community and ensure their voices are heard both at district and state levels if elected.
He described Syed Hussein as the ideal candidate for the Mahkota seat, citing his youth, dynamic nature, and strong educational background.
"Syed Hussein represents a new generation of leadership – he's young, well-educated, and speaks Mandarin, which helps him engage with various communities in Mahkota."
Asogan also said that Syed Hussein's unique advantage of having attended a Chinese school, enabled him to connect better with the diverse electorate.
Yesterday, more than 1,000 MIC members rallied in support of Syed Hussein during nomination day, showing the party's firm commitment to BN.
Asogan said that MIC had always maintained strong ties within the BN coalition, offering unwavering support in every election.
"The Mahkota by-election is no exception. We're here to show our confidence in BN's choice for the seat," he told the New Straits Times.
