Zambry: Mahkota by-election victory testament to people's trust towards BN

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional's victory in the Mahkota by-election yesterday is proof of the trust people have on the coalition and the unity government.

BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the win was due to voters prioritising development.

He expressed the coalition's gratitude for constituents who voted for Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah, who retained the seat for BN with a 20,648-vote majority, defeating Perikatan Nasional's Mohamad Haizan Jaafar.

"Indeed, this win represents a trust placed by the people, reaffirming their confidence in BN's commitment to persist in advancing the nation's development agenda and ensuring the well-being of its citizens.

"On behalf of BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and the supreme council, BN extends its heartfelt thanks to the voters of Mahkota for their support," he said in a statement.

Zambry said the victory also reflects the people's confidence towards Johor BN chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi's leadership and the moderation espoused by the unity government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"With the strong mandate received, Barisan Nasional is further determined to promote moderate politics alongside partners in the unity government under the leadership of YAB Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim," he said while also thanking the BN and Pakatan Harapan machinery for their dedication throughout the campaign period.

He said the win was special because it coincided with BN's 50th anniversary this year.

"May this victory, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Barisan Nasional, inspire renewed efforts to unlock our full potential and propel us forward, building a future of excellence with the continued trust and support of the people."

BN retained the Mahkota state seat in Johor after Election Commission returning officer Azurawati Wahid announced last night that Syed Hussien emerged victorious after he secured 27,995 votes. Haizan garnered 7,347 votes.
