LETTERS: I disagree with the letter encouraging Malaysia to emulate Thailand's move to grant temporary visa-free entry to Chinese tourists.
Just think of the negative implications of offering visa-free entry, which could allow operators of scam call centres, illegal businesses and prostitution rings to slip into the country.
A better way is to waive the visa fee but still require travellers to apply for a visa.
Let's bank on domestic tourism first to rev up the economy. Free visas alone are not enough to entice Chinese tourists.
We should focus on digitalisation to boost tourism.
