Sime Darby Property Bhd, one of Malaysia's top developers has appointed two new key heads to strengthen its leadership position and spearhead the group forward.
It appointed Datuk Azmir Merican Azmi Merican as its new group managing director, and Mohd Sohimin Mohd Alayedin, as its chief special projects officer, effective immediately.
Following Azmir’s appointment, the acting chief executive officer, Datuk Wan Hashimi Albakri Wan Ahmad Amin Jaffri will resume his position as the group’s township development chief operating officer.
Sime Darby Property Bhd’s net profit surged 129.6 per cent to RM103.0 million in the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2019.
For the full-year, Sime Darby Property reported an improved net profit of RM598.5 million for the year, up 351 per cent over 2018.
Revenue for 2019 rose 30 per cent to RM3.2 billion from RM2.4 billion in 2018.
The group also exceeded its full-year sales target of RM3.1 billion, thanks to a higher contribution from the property development segment and other gains.
Sime Darby Property launched 2,917 units with a combined gross development value (GDV) of RM2.3 billion during the year. Total unbilled sales were RM1.6 billion as of December 2019.
There were higher sales and development activities at its townships and projects including Denai Alam, Bukit Jelutong, Nilai Utama, Bandar Bukit Raja, Serenia City, Putra Heights, KLGCC Resort and Cantara Residences.
In a statement, Sime Darby Property said that Azmir's expertise includes organisational transformation, business restructuring, operational competence, and corporate finance.
Azmir was formerly the managing director/chief executive officer of UEM Edgenta Bhd. He spearheaded UEM Edgenta’s ongoing transformation as a technology-driven company in the healthcare support services, property and facility solutions, and infrastructure sectors.
Mohd Sohimin, meanwhile, has over 29 years of experience in property development and construction.
He was formerly executive director of Tropicana Corp Bhd. Before that he held senior positions in various companies including Glenmarie Properties Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of DRB Hicom Bhd; Kumpulan Hartanah Selangor Bhd and Sunway City Bhd.
