Malaysian-owned Roti King joins Battersea Power Station restaurants

Popular Malaysian restaurant operator Sugendran Gopal, is set to open Roti King in Circus West Village, London's first completed chapter in the £9 billion Battersea Power Station regeneration project, in the next quarter.

Known for its authentic roti canai, this would be Roti King's second location in the United Kingdom (UK).

The first outlet opened in Euston in 2014.

The entrepreneur also owns Gopal's Corner in Market Hall near Oxford Circus.

According to the Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC), 14 cafés, bars, and restaurants have opened in Circus West Village.

Circus West Village, a riverside neighbourhood, is also home to over 1,700 residents, including fitness and leisure facilities.

The Grade II-listed power station, the second phase of Battersea Power Station, will open in September 2022, with the first tranche of cafes, bars, and restaurants.

The food and beverage outlets will be housed in the building's historic Turbine Halls and Boiler House.

Le Bab, Where The Pancakes Are, Poke House, Clean Kitchen Club, Paris Baguette, Joe & The Juice, Starbucks, Gordon Ramsay's Bread Street Kitchen & Bar, and a 20,000 square foot food hall are among the new openings.

State of Play Hospitality's competitive socialising ping pong concept Bounce, will open its first venue in the UK in seven years within Turbine Hall B, adding to the Power Station's leisure offering.

The new, one-of-a-kind website will feature an entirely new look and feel for the brand and 11 gaming areas, a central cocktail bar, and a private room.

Battersea Power Station will also have several Wonderball tables which use laser mapping technology to create various interactive games.

According to Sam Cotton, BPSDC's head of leasing, the Battersea Power Station has emerged as one of London's leading food and drink destinations.

He said that the great mix of cafés, bars, and restaurants opening inside would make it more vibrant, creating thousands of new jobs for the immediate and broader local communities.

"We are delivering something incredibly unique for the capital and are confident visitors to Battersea Power Station will be excited by the variety of cuisines that will be on offer. We have an exciting year ahead of us as we countdown to the power station opening and other retail, leisure and dining concepts to announce," he said in a statement today.

The second phase of the Battersea Power Station will include over 100 retail shops, restaurants, and cafes and 254 apartments, offices, and unique event spaces.

It also provides a one-of-a-kind chimney lift experience with 360-degree panoramic views of London's skyline.

The Battersea Power Station development is central London's largest and most forward-thinking riverside community.

It is owned by a consortium of Malaysian investors led by S P Setia Bhd (40 per cent), Sime Darby Property Bhd (40 per cent), and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) (20 per cent).

The EPF and Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) owned the building's commercial assets.

The 17-hectare development, which includes 3.5 million square feet of mixed commercial space and 4,239 new homes, is managed by BPSDC, a company based in the United Kingdom.
