The value of completed construction work in the first quarter of 2022 (Q1 2022) contracted by 6.1 per cent year-on-year to RM29.5 billion, according to the Malaysian Department of Statistics (DOSM).
Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Sarawak had the largest proportion of the value of completed construction work in Q1 2022, totaling RM16 billion (54.2 per cent), said DOSM's chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin.
Selangor had the greatest total value of completed construction work with RM6.9 billion, followed by Kuala Lumpur (RM5.8 billion) and Sarawak (RM4.4 billion) (RM3.3 billion).
Mohd Uzir stated in a statement that the civil engineering subsector remained the largest contributor to the value of completed construction work, accounting for 35.1 per cent of the total in Q1 2022.
The non-residential buildings subsector contributed 30.4 per cent, while residential buildings and special trades activities each contributed 24.2 per cent and 10.2 per cent, respectively.
According to Mohd Uzir, the value of completed construction work improved in Q1 2022, compared to a contraction of 12.9 per cent (RM27.6 billion) in the fourth quarter of 2021 (Q4 2021).
