KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Misbun Sidek is set to make a comeback to the BA of Malaysia (BAM) as the men's singles head coach.
Following the Coaching and Training (C&T) meeting on Thursday at the Academy Badminton Malaysia, BAM president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria announced that the 57-year-old former men's singles coach's reappointment is based on the proposal of technical director Morten Frost, who also presented a blueprint on the new structure for the 2017-2020 cycle.
Misbun, who quit the national body in 2011 due to personal differences with another party, will be assisted by Indonesian Hendrawan, Indra Wijaya and Sairul Amar Ayob.
His task will include overseeing the entire men's singles department, including a specific programme for world No 1 Lee Chong Wei.
"I spoke to Misbun prior to the C&T meeting and he has agreed to join us," said Norza, who is also the C&T chairman.
“He is expected to join us after Hari Raya, next month."
Other changes to the coaching structure will see former Thomas Cup-winning shuttler Cheah Soon Kit become the men's doubles head coach, while Tey Seu Bock, who was previously with the men's singles department will now take over the role of the women's singles head coach.
The women's doubles will be led by Wong Pei Tty, while the mixed doubles will be under the care of Chin Ee Hui.
