POLISH Open champion Tan Jia Wei moved into the second round of the New Zealand Open with minimal fuss after downing Australian Low Pit Seng 21-15, 21-13 at the North Shore sports centre yesterday.
Jia Wei, competing in his second GP Gold class tournament, said it took some time for him to settle down.
"This is my first time competing here and I felt quite excited at the start of the match. It did affect my game a little," said the 19-year-old.
"My opponent came out aggressively in the second set but I managed to remain in control.
"My goal is to make it to the quarterfinals at the least. I hope to maintain a good performance in the second round."
Lee Zii Jia progressed after beating Chen Cham (Australia) 21-7, 21-7 while former BAM trio Goh Giap Chin, Chong Wei Feng and Liew Daren also had little trouble beating their opponents to ease into the second round.
