KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian men's badminton team are just one tie away from winning their first Sea Games gold medal since 2005 (Manila) when they qualified for the final following a 3-0 win over Singapore here at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.
In the first men's singles match, Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin had to dig deep before carving out a 19-21, 21-17, 21-10 win over Ryan Ng for Malaysia's first point.
Men's doubles Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi, who took to court in the second match, were also dragged to the deciding game before chalking up a 21-10, 20-22, 21-15 win over Terry Hee-Loh Kean Hean.
Soong Joo Ven was once again the hero when he clawed back from a game down to see off Loh Kean Yew 9-21, 21-16, 21-18
Malaysia will play the winner of the match between Thailand and Indonesia in the final on Thursday.
