Mixed doubles Peng Soon-Yee See fail to make it at Korea Open

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's interest at the Korea Open came to an end on Saturday when mixed doubles duo Chan Peng Soon-Cheah Yee See crashed out in the last four stage in Seoul.

Peng Soon-Yee See, playing in their maiden Super Series semi-finals, lost 21-15, 21-9 to China's Wang Yilyu-Huang Dongping.

Despite the defeat, 29-year-old Peng Soon took it in his stride and has vowed to come back stronger with his current partner.

"It wasn't our best match. We lost focus and made too many mistakes.

"However, Yee See and I are still a new pair, and to reach it to the semi-finals of a Super Series tournament is already an encouragement.

"Of course we cannot stop here. We must come back stronger. I believe that with each tournament we compete in, we are getting better," said Peng Soon, who was only paired with Yee See in May.

Recently at the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games (KL2017), Peng Soon-Yee See settled for the bronze medal after losing to eventual winners Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand in the semi-finals.

The Malaysian duo, who bagged the Russian Open title in June, will fly to Tokyo next for the Japan Open that starts on Tuesday.
