KUALA LUMPUR: Lee Chong Wei may have to play without his coach, Hendrawan at the Super Series challenge starting in Dubai on Wednesday.
Hendrawan was scheduled to travel with Chong Wei to the tournament in the United Arab Emirates but he has yet to receive his visa.
On the other hand, Chong Wei departed for Dubai yesterday with singles shuttler and sparring partner, Cheam June Wei.
BAM honorary secretary Datuk Ng Chin Chai said there was an issue about Hendrawan’s visa and the association are waiting until tomorrow before making any further decisions.
“Up until Saturday, Hendrawan has yet to receive his visa and we are working on it. Chong Wei’s first match will begin on Thursday, so, there’s still time,” he said.
“We may send another coach. We will decide after a day or two.”
When Chong Wei won the recent Hong Kong Open, the 35-year old was accompanied by national coach, Tey Sue Bock.
If Hendrawan fails to get his visa in time, Sue Bock, Sairul Amar Ayob or Datuk Misbun Sidek may go with Chong Wei to Dubai.
World No. 2 Chong Wei is among the eight players who have qualified for the Super Series Challenge,
In Dubai, Chong Wei will vie with South Korea’s Son Wan Ho, Viktor Axelsen of Denmark, Shi Yuqi and Chen Long from China, Taiwan’s Chou Tien Chen and Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong.
Malaysia will also be represented in the mixed doubles by Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing.
