KUALA LUMPUR: National mixed doubles coach Chin Eei Hui does not want her pairs to get too comfortable with their decent runs in the opening three tournaments of the season.
Eei Hui said her pairs must continue showing progress as they are still far from becoming world beaters.
World No 13 Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie are growing to strength with semi-final appearances at the Malaysia Masters and Indonesia Masters while compatriots Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying won the Thailand Open two weeks ago.
"Based on results, the pairs are doing well, but we cannot assume that they are good. There is still a gap between them and other top pairs,” said Eei Hui.
"The good thing is that the pairs work well together as a team. This culture has also helped our juniors to improve in all aspects.
“I want the pairs to continue being hungry as this will drive them to attain better results.
“They must know and feel that they are not good enough yet or they will never push to go the extra mile."
Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing are the highest ranked Malaysian pair at World No 11, followed by Soon Huat-Shevon and 21st-ranked Peng Soon-Liu Ying, who only resumed their partnership recently.
"I think the pairs have done well with one title and two semi-final appearances so early in the season, but I want them to build from these results and attain better performances,” she added.
The pairs will compete in the India Open, which starts on Tuesday, in New Delhi.
