Kian Meng-Pei Jing aim Asian Games spot

KUALA LUMPUR: Mixed doubles Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing are fired up to make the team for the Indonesia Asian Games in August after it was confirmed that they have been dropped from the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games squad.

The World No 11 have been replaced by 10th-ranked Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie for the Gold Coast assignment in April.

Kian Meng said: “Of course, we are disappointed. It was our spot, and we blew it.”

‘There is no point in dwelling in the past. We must look forward and find ways to improve.

"Pei Jing and I have a lot to work on. Our entire dynamics on court must change.

“Soon Huat-Shevon deserve our Gold Coast spot. They have been playing well,” said Kian Meng.

On the next plan, Kian Meng said: "We will head to Birmingham for the All England next month.”

“We hope to regain momentum to boost our ego.

"We still have a fighting chance of making the Asian Games team. Time is on our side to make some progress,” he added.

Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying, who won silver at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, are the other Malaysian pair gunning for an Asian Games berth.
