GOLD COAST: World No 13 Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong have vowed to make amends for the disappointment in the mixed team event by retaining their men's doubles gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
V Shem-Wee Kiong are the top seeds and are expected to face India's second seeds Chirag Shetty-Satwi Rankireddy in the final.
The pressure is on them to continue Malaysia's strong tradition in the event. Malaysia have not lost in the men's doubles since the 1990 Auckland edition.
Scratch pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Soon Huat are in the bottom half of the draw.
"We are focused on defending our title following the defeat in the mixed team final. Our draw is good. We will probably play England's Marcus Ellis-Chris Langridge in the semi-finals, who we beat in the team event," said Wee Kiong.
"I hope we can continue our good form here. It would be nice if it can be an all-Malaysian final.
"As for Chiraq-Satwi, we need to be cautious as they will probably be fired up after India's mixed team win."
V Shem-Wee Kiong, who have been given a first round bye, reunited early this year after briefly separating for four months due to internal differences.
Their best result this year was reaching the final of the Malaysia Masters and semi-finals of the Thailand Masters and German Open.
In the mixed doubles, Malaysia have two pairs in top seeds Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie and Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying in the fray.
Peng Soon-Liu Ying hope to produce a better show following the defeat to India's Satwi-Ashwini Ponnappa in Monday's mixed team final.
"We are not demoralised over the defeat yesterday. The important thing is that we need to concentrate and achieve our target of reaching the final," said Peng Soon.
Peng Soon-Liu Ying, however, have a tough draw with likely encounters against India's Pranaav Jerry Chopra-N. Sikki Reddy in the quarter-finals and World No 10 Chris Adcock-Gabrielle Adcock in semi-finals.
