KUALA LUMPUR: Boon Wei Ying did the nation proud by winning bronze at the World Deaf Badminton Championships in Taiwan yesterday.
The unseeded women's singles shuttler produced a strong performance before going down 22-20, 21-16 to Taiwan's Shen Yan-Ru in the semi-finals. Losing semi-finalists are awarded bronze medals.
In the earlier rounds, the Melaka-born Wei Ying defeated Switzerland's Sophie Bula (21-6, 21-6), India's Jerlin Jayaratchagan (21-19, 21-15) and Taiwan's Tu Wen Hsuan (21-15, 21-6).
This was the 24-year-old’s second best performance after her silver medal effort in the mixed doubles event of the 2017 Deaflympic in Samsun, Turkey.
