KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Lee Chong Wei, the national badminton legend, described Malaysia's former national shuttler Bong Guang Yik as a "bad apple" in response to his racist remarks that touched on religious sensitivity.
"Sports uphold respect and accept no racism. Don't ever, in pursuit of fame, be willing to destroy the harmony (of the nation) that was built not in a day or two, but over decades.
"Consider him a bad apple, friends," he wrote on his Facebook page.
Chong Wei also praised the quick action of Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh who wisely handled the issue.
"Thank you to YB (Hannah) for her ingenuity and speed in handling this issue."
Recently, a video went viral on social media about Guang Yik's racist remarks when he criticised the Badminton Association of Malaysia's management.
He is believed to have settled down in China and is coaching there.
