Nova says it's 'disheartening' he can't be with Jin Wei at Olympics

KUALA LUMPUR: Coach Nova Armada has said it is "disheartening" for him not to be able to help independent shuttler Goh Jin Wei at the Olympics from July 26-Aug 11.

The Indonesian took to social media yesterday to explain his unavailability for Jin Wei in Paris.

Nova, who has been coaching Jin Wei for the past three years, said he had hoped to be in the French capital to guide and support the two-time world junior champion.

However, Nova said he found out two months ago that he could not travel to Paris with Jin Wei, who is Malaysia's No.1 women's singles player, due to limited accreditation passes.

"Despite our best efforts to find a way around this, we were repeatedly told no. As a coach, this news was disheartening," Nova posted on X.

As a result, Nova has to focus on the Paralympics where he will coach Cheah Liek Hou and Fareez Anuar.

"When I was coaching Liek Hou and Fareez in a tournament in Scotland, Jin Wei had a meeting with the CDM (Datuk Hamidin Amin) and subsequently made a statement on Instagram.

"As a coach, I couldn't be angry and respected her decision to express her feelings, because I understand her desire for her coach's presence at such a major and important event.

"It wasn't that I didn't want to go, but the accreditation situation made it impossible.

"Hence I have accepted the circumstances, and will make use of the time to focus on the Paralympics.

"With my explanation, I hope to clear up any misunderstandings and prevent any further confusion regarding this issue."
