Justin makes Super 300 breakthrough in Taiwan

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 68 Justin Hoh reached a significant milestone in his career today by advancing to the quarter-finals of a Super 300 tournament for the first time.

The rising star, who recently won the Malaysia Games (Sukma) gold medal in Sarawak, secured a hard-fought victory over world No. 70 Yahanes Saut Marcellyno at the Taiwan Open.

Justin came from behind to defeat the Indonesian 12-21, 21-9, 21-14 in the last 16.

He will face Taiwan's ninth-ranked Chou Tien Chen, who defeated Malaysia's Soon Joo Ven 21-8, 21-17, in the quarter-finals tomorrow.

In his first Super 300 tournament at the Syed Modi International, Justin was ousted in the last 16.

Meanwhile, Aaron Tai-Kang Khai Xing hopes of making it to their second men's doubles quarter-final on the World Tour were dashed by home pair Chang Ko Chi-Chen Xin Yuan.

Aaron-Khai Xing made it to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open in June but could not repeat that feat after losing 21-10, 14-21, 15-21 in 47 minutes to the world No. 103 Taiwanese pair.

Meanwhile, former Sea Games champion S. Kisona saw her campaign come to an abrupt end in the women's singles.

The 25-year-old was outplayed by Indonesia's seventh seed Putri Kusuma Wardani, losing 21-8, 21-16 in the last 16.
