Hangzhou is far from Wei Chong-Kai Wun's minds

THOUGH men's badminton pair Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun can qualify for the World Tour Finals in Hangzhou, China, in December, they are not giving much thought to it.

Currently, they are eighth (in the final qualification position) in the Race to Finals rankings.

But in front of Wei Chong-Kai Wun are compatriots Chong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri (sixth) and Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani (seventh). A nation can have only a maximum two pairs qualifying for the season-ending tournament.

"The World Tour Finals are not on our minds for now. There're still many tournaments to come before that, so we want to take things one competition at a time.

"We have a few things about our game that we need to fix. Our consistency is the most obvious thing that we need to improve," said Wei Chong.

The world No. 17 suffered nine first or second-round exits in 12 tournaments this year. However, they reached the quarter-finals three times and enjoyed one "surprise" final appearance at the Super 1000 Indonesia Open where they lost to China's world No. 1 Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang.

"Getting to a Super 1000 final was a good boost for us as we have not been playing well this year.

"There's still plenty of tournaments to play in, so we want to focus on performing well in those," added Kai Wun.

The national No. 3 pair will play in the Hong Kong Open beginning on Tuesday.
