Pearly-Thinaah reach Hong Kong Open q-finals

KUALA LUMPUR: Women's pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah advanced to the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open after defeating homesters Lui Lok Lok-Tsang Hiu Yan in the second round today.

The third seeds did not face much resistance from the world No. 102 Hong Kong pair, taking only 30 minutes to win 21-16, 21-14 at the Hong Kong Coliseum.

World No. 8 Pearly-Thinaah will face Indonesia's Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma-Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi in the quarter-finals.

But it was not a good day for Malaysia's professionals in the men's doubles as Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, Lim Tze Jian-Wong Tien Ci and Nur Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong all fell in the second round.

In their first tournament as a professional pair, Sze Fei-Izzuddin lost focus after winning the first game against new Indonesian pairing Muhammad Shohibul Fikri-Daniel Marthin.
