Zii Jia reaches Arctic Open quarter-finals

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 4 Lee Zii Jia advanced to the quarter-finals of the Arctic Open after overcoming Japanese challenger Yushi Tanaka in Vantaa, Finland, today.

Zii Jia, who is the defending champion, managed to overcome a strong resistance from World No. 30 Tanaka before securing a 21-11, 21-18 win in the second round that lasted 42 minutes.

It was Zii Jia's first quarter-final appearance in the world tour since winning the men's singles bronze at the Paris Olympics in August.

Meanwhile, young mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin also did well to reach the last eight after beating sixth-seeded Taiwanese pair Yang Po Hsuan-Hu Ling Fang 21-19, 21-12 in the second round.
