Herry IP gets BAM call for men's doubles coaching job

KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran Indonesian coach Herry Iman Pierngadi has confirmed that the BA of Malaysia (BAM) has approached him regarding the national men's doubles head coaching role.

The 62-year-old, famously known as Herry IP, told BH Sukan that he is open to considering the position if the terms are agreeable.

"If it suits me and I receive an official offer, there's a possibility," Herry said when contacted via Instagram.

When asked if BAM representatives had reached out, he replied: "Yes, they have."

BAM is actively searching for a replacement for Tan Bin Shen, who will step down as national men's doubles head coach on Jan 13 to join the Hong Kong BA.

Herry, a renowned figure in badminton, has mentored several Indonesian pairs to Olympic and world titles.

His proteges include Tony Gunawan-Candra Wijaya and Hendra Setiawan-Markis Kido.

He also guided the pairing of Hendra and Mohammad Ahsan to multiple world titles and an All England crown.

Herry's legacy extends to Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, the former world No. 1 pair and All England champions.

However, Herry transitioned to mixed doubles coaching last year and recently announced his departure from the Indonesian national setup.

It is understood that the Chinese BA (CBA) is also eyeing Herry's expertise.

Other candidates reportedly in contention for the BAM vacancy include Denmark's Mathias Boe and Indonesia's Flandy Limpele.
