KUALA LUMPUR: National track cycling coach Harnizam Basri is hoping to see Ridwan Sahrom bloom at the World Championships in Denmark on Oct 16-20.
Harnizam said Ridwan, 23, has been in good form recently and is primed for a positive outing in Ballerup where he will race in the men's individual sprint and keirin.
Ridwan is the younger brother of Commonwealth Games keirin bronze medallist Shah Firdaus, 28, who will also be competing at the world meet.
"Ridwan has been training continuously since the start of the year and has been performing well," said Harnizam recently.
"We are hoping that he can break his personal best in the 200 metre flying time trial.
"He has gone sub-10 seconds in training many, many times but he has never done it on race day so this is something we are hoping to see.
"For Ridwan, we are also expecting him to make at least the quarterfinals in the keirin and hopefully the second round in the individual sprint."
Ridwan is seen as the nation's second best rider in the sprint disciplines (keirin, individual and team sprint) after Shah following Datuk Azizulhasni Awang's retirement recently.
Ballerup will be the Muar-born's third appearance at the world meet. He previously rode the team sprint (2022) and keirin (2023).
Besides Ridwan and Shah, Anis Amira Rosidi and Izzah Izzati Asri will also be racing at the World Championships.
