KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian track cycling great Azizulhasni Awang celebrated his 37th birthday in style yesterday.
The former world keirin champion and two-time Olympic medallist received a luxury watch, a Panerai Submersible, from his sponsors.
It is unclear which variant of the Submersible model he received, however, new retail prices for the Submersible range start from RM41,500.
Azizulhasni, who shared a short video on social media today (Dec 6), was visibly pleased to receive the gift.
"Truly speechless, what a stunning timepiece. This watch will definitely keep me inspired and motivated for the journey ahead," said Azizulhasni.
"My utmost appreciation to Valiram and Swiss Watch for the thoughtful gift and making this birthday extra special."
Despite earlier plans to retire from the national team, Azizulhasni is widely expected to continue riding for Malaysia this year albeit on a reduced scale.
The Malaysia National Cycling Federation (MNCF) disclosed that Azizulhasni intends to meet with Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh to discuss his future plans before signing a new contract with the National Sports Council.
