JOHOR BARU: Malaysia's Under-22 side bounced back to force a 2-2 draw with the reserve side of Guangzhou R&F in Guangzhou on Tuesday.
Guangzhou, who had six players from their China Super League side, netted through Deng Zhiyao (21st) and Zhu Di (38th).
Malaysia, however, responded with Safawi Rasid's brace in the 47th and 53th minutes.
Both teams were down with 10 players each when Zeng Chao and Sean Eugene Selvaraj were sent off in the 44th minute.
Malaysia made seven changes to the squad that lost 1-0 to China's Under-22 team last week.
"I made seven changes and the performances of some were not so impressive," said coach Ong Kim Swee after the match.
"They need to do better to play at international level.
"However, the players showed character to come back from two goals down in the second half.
"I told them during the break to be aggressive. Safawi's inclusion in the second half added pace."
Malaysia will end their playing tour in China against Guangzhou Evergrande's reserve team on Thursday.
"I want to see the players doing better in our final game. I may decide to drop those who do not fit my plans," Kim Swee added.
