Melaka foils Kelantan's dream of Malaysia Cup with 3-0 win

KUALA LUMPUR: Melaka dealt Kelantan’s Malaysia Cup ambitions a blow with a 3-0 win on Saturday, while Selangor kept alive their bid to reach the final for a third consecutive year.

After making several changes from the side beaten 2-0 by Kedah on Tuesday, Melaka stunned Kelantan after 20 minutes through Marko Simic before R. Surendran doubled the lead 10 minutes later at the Hang Jebat Stadium.

Fauzi Roslan scored four minutes after the break to seal the victory, Melaka’s first in Group C, which lifted them to second past Kelantan on goal difference with Kedah leading the way on six points.

Selangor, champions in 2015 and runners-up last year, joined Johor Darul Ta’zim on four points in Group D after a 2-1 win over Sarawak at the State Stadium in Kuching.

Francis Doe put the visitors ahead in the 38th minute before Demerson Bruno Costa’s own goal 20 minutes into the second half made it 2-0.

Shreen Tambi pulled one back for Sarawak, who fell to their second straight defeat, eight minutes from time.

In a Group B match, Felda United edged PKNS 2-1 at the Shah Alam Stadium thanks to an 88th-minute winner by Thiago Augusto Fernandes.

Zah Rahan Krangar gave Felda a fifth-minute lead only for Patrick Wleh to equal on the stroke at half-time for PKNS, who had Adam Abdullah in charge after coach E. Elavarasan was rested following Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat to Perak.
