JDT sign up Brazilian to bolster defence

KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) announced that they have acquired a Brazilian defender, Bruno Gabriel Soares for the coming Malaysia League season.

The news was made public via Johor Darul Ta’zim’s official Facebook page Johor Southern Tigers (JST) last night, and the club added that the lanky defender will be put on ‘standby’ to replace Marcos Antonio in the event that he cannot recover fully in time from his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury to his left knee which has sidelined him since July.

The statement also revealed that the former Hapoel Tel Aviv defender will most likely play for JDT II and will only feature for the Southern Tigers when he is needed.

"Bruno is our new defender who hails from Brazil. We have put him as a `standby’ player just in case Marcos Antonio cannot return to full fitness in time.

"For now he will most likely play for JDT II and will only play for the main squad when needed,” added the statement.

Before this, the four time consecutive Super League champions had announced the return of two of their former Argentinian imports in Jorge Pereyra Diaz and Luciano Figueroa.

Apart from these signings, Singapore international Hariss Harun has also returned to further strengthen the team after he was loaned out for a season to Singaporean club Home United.

In fact, they have already filled their quota of four import players as they procured the services of La’Vere Corbin, a versatile player who can play at rightback or leftback, and who is of Malaysian-Barbados parentage
