Malaysia Cup target for MIFA

SUBANG JAYA: Premier League side MISC-MIFA are targeting qualification for the Malaysia Cup after narrowly avoiding relegation last season.

With K. Devan installed as coach, MISC-MIFA embarked on a recruitment drive around the country in the off-season in a bid to improve on a 2017 season when they escaped the drop on goal difference.

Malaysian Indian FA (MIFA) president Datuk T. Moham said the team aim to finish in the top five in the Premier League this season and secure a place in the Malaysia Cup.

"We have a very good coach in Devan, who has a very good track record in winning Super League titles, to lead the team," said Mohan during club's players introduction and jersey launch on Sunday which was witnessed by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.

"Our target is to qualify for the Malaysia Cup and I am confident in this team."

Mohan acknowledged that the odds are stacked against the club, who were FAM Cup champions in 2016.

"We are a RM6 million budget team competing against clubs on budgets of RM15 million and that is a very difficult thing to do," he said.

"But we have managed to remain in the Premier League."

MIFA retained Liberian forward Kpah Sherman from last season and added French striker L'Iman Seydi, South Korean Bae Beom-geun and Brazilian Elizon Araujo de Melo Bautista as their new foreign signings.

Among the biggest local names joining the club is former national team defender S. Subramaniam, who moved from Kelantan.
