KUALA LUMPUR: Kuantan FA deputy president Datuk Wan Solihin Wan Hassan has questioned the FA of Malaysia (FAM) for demanding that they settle the unpaid salaries of over RM762,000 to 24 players.
Solihin said the move taken by the FAM Status Committee yesterday (ordering clubs to pay) did not take into consideration of what the club management is going through.
"We do want to pay but the question is, how are we going to do that when we are suspended now? Where are we going to get the money from?" said Solihin.
"To me, this does not make sense. If we do not pay, they are going to take action. What action? They have already suspended us.
"If FAM want to take this to court, we are ready to see them in court."
In addition to Kuantan FA, the FAM Status Committee, which met on Monday, also ordered PJ Rangers to pay RM120,000 in contract compensation to player Abdullah Yusoff while Perlis FA have to settle the wages of 22 players amounting to RM182,000.
They have been given 30 days to settle the salaries owing to the players or face the FAM Disciplinary Committee.
Kuantan FA were booted out of the Premier League by the Malaysia Football League (MFL) after failing to turn up for the match against Police at the Shah Alam Stadium on April 15 due to financial issues.
Wan Solihin added that their woes could have been avoided if MFL had given them the room to secure sponsorship earlier.
"We tried to settle the players’ salaries by securing new sponsorship but when we were about to sign a new contract with sponsors, they (MFL) suspended us. So where are we supposed to find the money?
"Now it is up to FAM to take action, it is not that we do not want to pay, we just do not have any source of income anymore."
