MELAKA: Felda United coach B. Sathianathan labelled the 6-1 thrashing by Melaka in Saturday’s Malaysia Cup Group B match as shameful and embarrassing.
Nigerian forward Ifedayo Olusegun was the toast for Melaka with a hat-trick in the ninth, 43rd and 83rd minutes while S. Chanturu (72nd and 77th) and Belarus’ Yahor Zubovich (24th) added the other goals.
“This is the first time in my coaching career I saw a team, under my guidance, failing to follow instructions. It was shameful and embarrassing.
“I played several fringe players to give my regulars a break ahead of the next stage. But this did not work,” said Sathianathan.
He added that striker Thiago Fernandes did not play due to injury while Thiago Aquino had returned to Brazil for a short holiday.
Felda, however, qualified for the quarter-finals by finishing second in their group with 10 points, behind winners PKNS (13 points).
The Premier League champions face Group A winners Terengganu in the last-eight.
