AKID Zamri has been earmarked as a future Malaysian star following the forward’s impressive performance in the just-concluded Supermokh Cup in Gambang, Pahang.
Akid, who represented AMD Malaysia Cougars, was named top scorer in the Under-14 category with seven goals.
His team won the title by thrashing AMD Malaysia Panthers 7-2 in the final.
National Football Development Programme (NFDP) Under-14 coach Osmera Omaro said Akid stood out in the tournament.
‘Akid is a player with a good eye for goals. He takes his chances which he creates.
‘If we talk about forwards, the difference between good players and the rest is their ability to take their chances, and Akid has that gift.
‘The other players in the Under-14 team also have the potential go very far. I foresee an exciting future.’
Many are now comparing Akid with NFDP product Luqman Hakim Shamsudin who made headlines in September when he earned a five-year contract with Belgian side K.V. Kortrijk.
The 17-year-old will head to Cardiff City in England next month for a training stint before joining the Belgian side.
Meanwhile, M-League teams who want the secure the services of Mokhtar Dahari Academy trainees will need to pay compensation to the National Sports Council (NSC).
NSC director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail said the compensation is for the academy’s efforts in developing these players.
‘It is a form of compensation teams will need to pay if they want to sign players from the academy,” said Shapawi.
Thailand’s Buriram United and AMD Malaysia Panthers were crowned Under-13 and Under-12 champions, respectively, at the SuperMokh Cup.
