PJ CITY FC’s home venue, the MBPJ Stadium, is better known as a rugby stadium and it was deemed unfit by visiting teams last season.
On some occasions, it was deemed too heavy for the PJ City Super League team, especially after rain.
As the new season kicks on Feb 28, PJ City coach K. Devan is keeping his fingers crossed that the pitch will get better.
‘They are doing some upgrading work on the field now. I hope our home ground will get better. The team management is working closely with PJ City Council,’ said Devan.
PJ City’s Brazilian striker Washington Brandao admitted it’s difficult to play the style of football that he is used to because the pitch is too heavy.
‘Personally, I’m not fond of the pitch. It becomes very heavy when it rains and it’s difficult to play,’ said Brandao.
‘But as footballers, we cannot just look for excuses if we don’t do well.
‘If the pitch condition is not good, we have to live with it. Hopefully, they (PJ City management and PJ City Council) can make it better.’
Last year, several teams including Johor Darul Ta’zim’s team manager Luciano Figueroa critised the poor playing the conditions of MBPJ stadium.
