KUALA NERU: As Malaysia beat Solomon Islands 4-1 in a friendly on Wednesday, it was Safawi Rasid who left fans gushing over his performance.
The winger scored a goal, which they say, is good enough to be a contender for Fifa's Puskas award.
It was a three-touch masterpiece-dribble, balance and left
footer.
Safawi conjured up the goal, his 19th for Malayisa in 52 games, in the 77th minute at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium.
The 26-year-old Safawi joyously dedicated the goal to his wife, Syifa Melvin, who is six months pregnant, and seated in the grandstands.
After he scored, Safawi, who plays for Johor Darul T'azim, placed the ball under his jersey, to signify the coming of his baby.
"My wife is pregnant, so the goal is for her. Pray for us, so that everything is safe," he said.
"The last time I scored for Malaysia was against Bangladesh (in the Asian Cup qualifier last year)."
Safawi, who has just returned from a six-month loan stint with Thai club, Ratchaburi FC, also confirmed that he will be staying with JDT.
In six months in Thailand, Safawi made 16 appearances for Ratchaburi FC, scoring a goal and making an assist.
