JDT does not want any surprises

KUALA LUMPUR: The undefeated Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) are set to record their 16 consecutive Super League win when the defending champions entertain Negri Sembilan at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri, on Saturday.

The Southern Tigers are on their longest winning streak and want to continue their excellent form.

They are at the top of the standings with 45 points, 11 more than second-placed Selangor.

Negri are ninth with just 19 points. Although JDT thrashed Negri Sembilan 7-0 in Paroi in March, coach Esteban Solari does not want his charges to be overconfident on Saturday.

"I have reminded my players to forget about the 7-0 win and focus on the game tomorrow. Negri are a tough team to beat, and we need to be at our best," said Solari.

"The target is not to drop a single point in the league this season. However, we must give our 100 per cent in every game to achieve this feat.

"The Deer will make it difficult as they need the points to improve their standing in the league.

"Negri have good strikers and are strong in set-pieces. The match will be a good challenge for my team."

Negri have not won since edging Police 2-1 on May 18.Meanwhile, new signings Ramon Macedo and Miguel Cifuentes may see action when Sabah host Kuching City at Likas Stadium on Saturday.

Both players are forwards and have played in Spain's La Liga and Segunda League. Sabah coach Ong Kim Swee said Macedo and Cifuentes' availability is subject to their International Transfer Certificate (ITC) approval.

"Macedo and Cifuentes need time to adapt to the team. Sabah are on the right path, and I hope we will do well tomorrow," said Kim Swee.

Sabah are fifth with 27 points from 15 games, and Kuching are 12th with six points.
