Bangladesh a big threat to Malaysia in football?

KUALA LUMPUR: Defender Harith Haiqal Adam Afkar and goalkeeper Sikh Izhan Nazrel Shik Azman have differing opinions on Malaysia's rivals at the Under-23 Asia Cup qualifiers in Chonburi, Thailand, on Sept 6-12.

Malaysia are drawn in Group H with Bangladesh (Sept 6), the Philippines (Sept 9) and Thailand (Sept 12).

Harith felt that Bangladesh are the biggest threat to Malaysia in the group because they are his team's first opponents.

"For now we have nothing (info on the Bangladesh team). We should not take them lightly because it's teams like this that can upset us. They're still a mystery to us," said Harith.

"Most people would think Thailand are going to be a problem. But for me, it's Bangladesh because it's our first game," said the Selangor Super League player.

On the contrary, Sikh Izhan sees Thailand as Malaysia's strongest rivals in the group.

He felt so after Malaysia lost 2-0 to Thailand in the group stage at the Phnom Penh Sea Games in May, and at the recent Under-23 Asean Championship (Malaysia lose 4-3 on penalties).

"We have learned something from our earlier games against Thailand. We don't want to miss out again," said the Negri Sembilan custodian.
