No complaints about VAR so far

KUALA LUMPUR: So far, nobody has cursed the referees or Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

So far, so good for FAM after three rounds of Super League matches.

The FAM Referee Unit reported there were 11 On-Field Reviews (OFR) using VAR across 15 matches, averaging 0.73 per match.

This indicated a strong understanding of VAR protocols among Malaysian referees.

According to the Fifa benchmark, an OFR average above three per match signals suboptimal referee performance.

FAM referee committee chairman Datuk S. Sivasundaram, said in in a statement: "The FAM Referee Unit has been conducting post-match analysis for each matchday involving VAR technology. These sessions are held weekly on Wednesdays, featuring selected video clips that focus on reinforcing and refining referee skills."

The Malaysian Football League spent RM5-6 million on four units of Mobile VAR for the Super League this season. However, teething problems affected three Super League matches.
