FAM president Hamidin claims granted audience with Sultan of Selangor [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Embattled FA of Malaysia (FAM) president Datuk Hamidin Amin claims he has been granted an audience with the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Hamidin said he received the confirmation from the Sultan's private secretary, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, yesterday afternoon.

"I received a phone call from Munir around 2:30pm on Friday, a day after I sent a letter requesting an audience with the Sultan Sharafuddin," said Hamidin today.

"Sultan Sharafuddin instructed Munir to accept my request for an audience, which I had sent to Istana Bukit Kayangan, Shah Alam, on Thursday afternoon."

He said Munir informed him that the Sultan would be traveling to Sarawak and had several other official engagements until the Maal Hijrah celebration on July 7.

"God willing, if there are no obstacles, the audience with Sultan Sharafuddin is likely to be scheduled after July 7, once he returns from Sarawak and completes his official duties," said Hamidin.

Recently Sultan Sharafuddin expressed his disappointment and displeasure over the punishment imposed on Selangor FC by the Malaysian Football League (MFL). The public was also outraged by the punishments which were deemed as excessive.

Selangor FC were initially fined RM100,000 (later reduced to RM60,000) by MFL for withdrawing from the Charity Shield match against JDT on May 10. Selangor had asked for a postponement, citing safety concerns following the horrific acid attack on Faisal Halim and threats to team officials.

Selangor were also initially docked three points, ordered to play a home match behind closed doors against JDT, and pay compensation to MFL and JDT.

The Sultan also expressed his disappointment with Hamidin's handling of the issue.
