Malaysia lose to Australia on penalties at Asean Championship

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia came up short in their bid to finish on the podium at the Under-19 Asean Championship when they lost 5-3 on penalties to Australia after a 1-1 draw in regulation time at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya on Monday.

Australia took the lead through Marcus Younis, who scored in the 29th minute.

However, Malaysia equalised through Jake Najdovski in the 73rd minute to level the game.

While Australia scored all their attempts during the penalty shootout, Malaysia only managed three through Abid Safaraz Rozaidi, Aiman Hakimi Othman and G. Pavithran.

Malaysia's Zachary Zahidadil failed to convert this attempt.
