Injured Alisson to miss Brazil's upcoming World Cup qualifiers

RIO DE JANEIRO: Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson will miss Brazil's next two World Cup qualifiers after suffering an injury during his team's 1-0 win at Crystal Palace yesterday, the Brazilian FA (CBF) said.

Palmeiras' Weverton has been called up to replace him as Brazil face Chile in Santiago on Oct. 10 before hosting Peru in Brasilia on Oct. 15, according to a statement.

Alisson "left the field in yesterday's Premier League match citing pain in his thigh," the CBF said. "The national team's medical department contacted the English club and was informed that he would not be able to play in both matches."

Earlier this week, Brazil coach Dorival Jr had already been forced to call up Paris St Germain's Lucas Beraldo to replace Bremer after the Juventus centre back suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Brazil are fifth in CONMEBOL's World Cup qualifiers with 10 points after eight matches, with the top six of the 10 teams qualifying directly.
