KUALA LUMPUR: The Argentine-born Sergio Aguero is ready to play wherever national interim coach Pau Marti Vicente wants him to play in their friendlies against Laos in Bangkok (Nov 14) and India in Hyderabad on Nov 18.
The 30-year-old is equally adept as a forward or midfielder, and the withdrawal of the Colombian-born forward, Romel Morales, due to injury could earn him a starting 11 berth.
Sri Pahang's Aguero, who last featured for Malaysia in the 3-1 win over Taiwan under South Korean coach Kim Pan Gon in a World Cup qualifier in June, said: "First of all, I'm happy to be back (with the national team) after a long time. We have to go and collect as many points as we can to go up the Fifa rankings.
"We will also try a new pattern of play under coach Pau (Marti Vicente) and do what he wants," said Aguero today before flying off to Bangkok for the Laos friendly.
"I'm not only a striker, I can play in midfield, Let's see what the coach's decision is. The training is almost the same because Pau was assistant to coach Kim.
"I think he prefers me as a midfielder, we'll see... I'm still new to him, it's only two training sessions, we have one more session and we'll see in the game. In training, he preferred me in midfield," said Aguero who had two goals from 10 appearances for Malaysia since 2022.
"My role is to help the younger players, talk to them, let them relax and enjoy the camp."
