KUALA LUMPUR: It will be a fiery battle between two of Southeast Asia's top football clubs, and the coolest defender in the national team, Dion Cools, will be in the thick of action.
Cools will be part of the Thai club, Buriram United that face Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) in an AFC Champions League Elite (ACLE) showdown at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium today.
Speaking ahead of the match, Cools stressed the importance of teamwork and discipline.
"The team is doing well and everyone is prepared for this game. We need to be cautious but we know we have the quality to compete," said Cools.
JDT and Buriram have seven points each, and are fighting for a spot in the next round of the ACLE.
JDT head coach Hector Bidoglio said: "This match is very important for the club. Our players are in good condition, and we need to stay focused to show our potential at home.
"We will stick to our philosophy of attacking with high pressure, and we need three points to strengthen our position in the competition.
"The players are used to competing under pressure, and they know the importance of this match," said Bidoglio.
JDT captain Jordi Amat highlighted the rivalry between the two teams, calling it a clash between two of Southeast Asia's top clubs.
Buriram head coach Osmar Loss said: "It's a pleasure to be here for one more game in this competition. It's an important game for us, and for JDT too."
