Young Koreans finish fifth in SAS Cup

IPOH: South Korea salvaged some pride by whipping hapless Canada 4-1 to finish fifth in the Sultan Azlan Shah (SAS) Cup here today.

Kong Yoon Ho (15th minute), Lim Doh Yun (16th), Seo In Woo (17th) and Jung Hyunho (24th) sealed the win for world No. 11 Korea at the Azlan Shah Stadium.

Harbir Sidhu scored the consolation for Canada in the 50th minute.

It was Korea's second win over world No.19 Canada, whom they had beaten 1-0 in the round-robin stage.

Korea, who were champions in 1996, 2010, and 2019, are rebuilding their team for the future.

Coach Min Tae Seok called up 13 uncapped players for the SAS Cup.

He said the experience gained at the SAS Cup would be crucial for their preparation for the Nations Cup in Poland on May 30-June 9.

"We are happy to win. We played well in this match," said Tae Seok in the post-match press conference.

"We brought a young squad and played six quality matches here. This outing will help us prepare for the Nations Cup.

Korea are in Group A in the Nations Cup with Austria, New Zealand, Poland and South Africa.
