KUALA LUMPUR: Here is the surprising thing.
The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) has not set any Key Performance Index (KPI) for national coach Sarjit Singh since his appointment in March.
So, how do you judge Sarjit after his team finished sixth and last in the recent Asian Champions Trophy (ACT) in Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia?
The MHC feels that it's too early to pass judgement on Sarjit.
MHC vice president Datuk Ahmad Najmi Abdul Razak said Sarjit is still new in the national team coaching set-up.
"We will set the KPI for Sarjit once the time comes. We cannot set a KPI now as it is too soon.
"We will discuss the KPI matter during the executive board meeting.
"The Malaysian fans, the MHC and the players all are sad with the results," said Ahmad Najmi, who is also the national team manager.
"The key thing that the players must take from the ACT is learn from the mistakes and not repeat them.
"The players themselves are aware, and we can see on the television the mistakes, and the coach has taken note of that.
"Let's forget the ACT, and the national team need to move forward and let coach Sarjit plan his team for the tour to New Zealand in February."
MHC coaching committee chairman Datuk Majid Manjit Abdullah said: "The national team were disbanded after the Olympics Qualifier in Muscat, Oman in January and there was talk that rebuilding the national team will take three, four or five years.
"But Sarjit is talking of rebuilding the national team in 18 to 24 months.
"Give Sarjit the chance to prove himself. If you want to judge Sarjit, judge him in 18 months," said Majid.
