MHC raises concern over 26 concerts at National Hockey Stadium

PUTRAJAYA: Concerns are mounting over the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil hosting 26 concerts next year, with the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) fearing it could disrupt national team preparations and damage the facility's artificial turf.

MHC deputy president Datuk Ahmad Najmi Abdul Razak expressed apprehension over the potential impact on the national hockey team's training schedule, urging the Malaysian Stadium Corporation (MSC), which oversees the venue, to reconsider the matter.

"The hockey field is a key facility for the national team, and we have yet to receive official confirmation about the 26 concerts," Najmi said during a press conference following the MHC's annual general meeting at Menara PERKESO today.

"If it is true, the venue will be closed for half a year for concerts, which will interfere with our training plans.

Last month, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh revealed in the Dewan Rakyat that the National Hockey Stadium had received 26 concert bookings for 2025.

Najmi called for mutual understanding between stakeholders, ensuring the national team's preparations remain on track.
