SEPANG: Sepang International Circuit (SIC) chief executive officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif confirmed that the track has not been approached to host the final round of the MotoGP World Championships.
MotoGP rights holders Dorna yesterday announced that the Valencia GP, which had been scheduled to host the season finale on Nov 15-17, has been cancelled due to the floods there earlier this week.
Dorna is currently in the process of securing a new venue to host the season ender.
Shafriman said it is possible to host the final round in Malaysia though it would not be a straightforward process.
"So far, there have not been any discussions (with Dorna) to host the final round here," said Shafriman when met at Sepang Circuit today.
"We are prepared to host the final round, however, from a technical perspective there are some challenges in regards to the tyres.
"The tyres produced for each round are made specifically for each track.
"To produce new tyres for the entire grid to race here (Sepang) again would take about two weeks, to ship them here (from Europe) would take roughly another two weeks.
"So if they (Dorna) do want to hold it here, it would probably be somewhere in December.
"However, there have not been any hints it will be here. Perhaps they are looking at other circuits, possibly in Europe."
There is speculation that Dorna is currently considering hosting the season ender in either Qatar, Barcelona or Portimao.
Sepang is currently hosting the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia which is the penultimate round of the World Championships.
Valencia sustained serious damage to its infrastructure due to the floods which has also affected other parts of Spain. Over 200 people have lost their lives.
