KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Sea Games Organising Committee (MASOC) has promised to resolve all issues affecting the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games (KL2017), placing emphasis on issues directly involving athletes.
Its chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zolkples Embong said MASOC are continuously monitoring the situation and meeting with the chef-de-missions of all competing countries on a daily basis.
"We promise to resolve all the issues affecting KL2017 including the (crash-prone) KL2017 mobile app. Everyone is aware of the situation now," said Zolkples.
"With regards to the results system, some of them (results) had to be done manually but what is important is that they did not affect the events themselves.”
Zolkples added that MASOC is serious about making the games a success and is happy that numerous Sea Games and national records have been broken.
"Countries such as Cambodia should learn from what has happened as they will organise the Sea Games in 2023 for the first time. We have already hosted it six times but still faced a few problems, though we do try to solve them as best possible.
"Indonesia have not complained much as they will be organising the Asian Games next year and will have to do better than us."
Zolkples used the Rio Olympics as an example of how hosts will usually face some minor problems. The unreliable mobile app for KL2017 has drawn the ire of many.
"We did not expect problems with the results in the mobile app as we had tested it prior during the pre-Sea Games competitions without any issues.
"Regardless, we appreciate those who understand the situation."
