KUALA LUMPUR: More than 20 boats from all over the world will battle it out in the Royal Langkawi International Regatta championship (RLIR) on Jan 8-13.
The 16th edition of the RLIR will see about 100 sailors competing in seven categories: Racing, IRC1, IRC2, Club Cruising, Multihull, Ocean Rover and White Sail.
The foreign challenge will feature sailors from Australia, Denmark, France, Japan, Britain, Russia and Singapore.
Don Whitcraft, skipper of THA72 will be out to defend the Prime Minister Challenge Trophy in the Racing class.
Malaysia’s Vincent Chan and his Mata Hari crew will seek their fourth consecutive title in the IRC1 class.
“We are ready to welcome more than 100 local and international sailors. They will get to experience this interesting race,” said Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC) general manager Tayfun Koksal.
“The regatta has become one of the major events in the Asian sailing calendar.”
