KUALA TERENGGANU: A video has emerged from the ongoing Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) showing two riders involved in a heated argument that came to blows at the finishing line for stage three of the race from Kota Baru, Kelantan to Terengganu covering a distance of 166km.
Malaysian rider, Harris Salleh of Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) has claimed that he was punched in the face by another rider at the end of the third stage.
The other rider involved in the incident was said to be from China.
Other cyclists, who were close by, managed to prevent the incident from getting further out of hand, which saw the two riders involved throwing punches and things at each other, including their bicycles at one point.
The incident is said to have happened and boiled over because the Giant rider had wanted to go inside the echelon of the fast pace but could not do so as they approached the finish line.
It is understood that LTdL race commissars have taken action by imposing a fine and disqualifying the China’s rider from the race, with Harris also being fined for his conduct, though the Malaysian rider has been allowed to continue competing in the race.
